The Ultimate Resolution You'll Need for 2017
Let’s face it. We’ve all made New Year resolutions at one point or another. Remember last year when you promised yourself that you’d eat healthier and go to the gym more often? But then, the holidays were over, and you threw yourself into your work, and lo and behold, the year was over before you realized it. Yeah, we get it. Life happens.
This year, let's keep it simple with the ultimate resolution for every woman:
This year, I will respect my body as well as other women’s bodies.
Let’s put an end to body-shaming and slut-shaming. Or, at the very least, let’s not be willing participants in such destructive and abhorrent behaviors.
Instead, let’s respect all bodies—including our own.
Take care of your body by eating healthy, being active, and embracing all the details of your body no matter your shape, size, or color. Pay attention to your body, and respect your body. That means not eating junk food for dinner every night, or punishing yourself for two hours on the treadmill, or engaging in risky or unsafe sex. It’s time to end unhealthy behaviors that do not benefit you physically, mentally, or emotionally.
We’re not suggesting that you give up wine, join a 10K marathon, and burn your push-up bra. We’re merely suggesting that you take care of your body—like a grown woman does—and stop berating the physical details of your body or anyone else’s body.
Just as you would never criticize your best friend by calling her fat, you shouldn’t criticize yourself or others in that manner either. No one has the right to disrespect your body, and you do not have the right to disrespect anyone else’s body, either. It’s undignified and uncalled for. No woman deserves to have her dignity degraded through physical, sexual, emotional, or verbal violence.
This year, let’s resolve to be better to each other, and more importantly, let’s resolve to be better to ourselves.
