2017 Pantone Color of the Year is Greenery + How to Style it
Pantone, the New Jersey-based company that's been dubbed the "authority on color," has named Greenery its 2017 Color of the Year. In years past, the company has bestowed the honor to Marsala, Radiant Orchid, Emerald, and more. Moving away from the softer, more dream-like vibe of last year's winner — Rose Quartz and Serenity — Greenery is bold, bright, and cheerful.
Reminiscent of newly cut grass, fresh citrus fruit, and flower stems, Greenery is also full of life, which can be intimidating to those who tend to find comfort in neutrals. Yet, while a vibrant green hue may seem difficult to work with at first, it's actually quite simple (and fun) to try to incorporate it into your day-to-day life. From home accents to colorful eyeliner, view a few of our top ways to try out Greenery below.
1. Home Decor
Greenery is a color that has a lot of character, which makes it a great hue to liven up a boring room. From furniture with a pop of color, like this retro Legare Furniture Bent Ply Chair, or nature-inspired artwork, like this Meadow Leaves print by Erin Clark, it can help create a bold, yet natural, statement. Another easy, and somewhat obvious, way to incorporate the new Pantone Color of the Year into your home is by carefully curating a selection of plants to display. Put your favorite leafy picks in either a metallic vase, like the Etched Mercury Vase at Anthropologie, or a reclaimed wood vase, like this hanging air plant wall holder. Both options are extra chic and help the "green" stand out even more.
Greenery is really making its mark on the runway right now. The best way to get in on the excitement (and stay on top of the trend) is by incorporating the Color of the Year into your own wardrobe. This Calvin Klein Starburst Sheath Dress and XOXO Cold Shoulder Top pretty much prove that Greenery is a natural fit for spring and summer fashion. However, it can also work well for winter if you're strategic with the other colors you match it with. Pairing your Greenery piece with "cool" colors, such as baby blue, violet, and navy, can create a harmonious outfit. For a bold look, accessorize your Greenery piece with a deep red bag or shoe.
As we've shown before, creativity is endless when it comes to makeup. Taking your devotion for Pantone's pick one step further, follow xo Vain's lead and try out Greenery eyeshadow, nail polish, or, if you're really feeling wild, lipstick. In what should come as no surprise, greenery eye makeup can look especially stunning on green eyes. Urban Decay and Nars both offer pretty, pigmented options in similar green shades. However, if you really want to stay true to Greenery, then keep an eye out for Pantone's makeup line. The company launches a new collection every year that's based on its newest pick.
