Beauty Review: Mizon Snail Repair Cream and Snail Repair Cream

Last Christmas, my husband gifted me the Mizon Snail Repair Cream and Eye Cream.  I’ve finally used up all the cream and well on my way to finishing the eye cream.

If you’re anything like me, shopping for beauty products can feel overwhelming at times.  There are so many options in every price range with hundreds of special features all touting a promise in a bottle.

I’m inherently skeptical of companies that promise too much – blame it on my years of working in marketing.  If it’s too good to be true, it probably is.

However, I went in to testing the creams with an open heart because let’s face it – I want it to work.

Summary

The Mizon Snail Repair Cream and Eye Cream have sold millions of bottles across Asia.  There is a serious buzz around this product and it’s supposed to work wonders on oily and acne-prone to combination skin types.  Other claims this product boasts is the improvement in appearance of fine lines, acne scaring and blemishes.

I give both products a 3/5 rating after using them for 2.5 months.  My dry patches did go away but I didn’t see a noticeable reduction in fine line, acne scars or my blemishes.  The product is quickly absorbed into the skin and doesn’t leave a sticky feeling.

I enjoyed the eye cream much more than I did the face cream.  The eye cream has a thicker, creamier consistency and I noticed the reduction of fine lines under my eyes disappear seemingly overnight.

Type

Face Cream and Eye Cream

Tester Skin

I have combination oily and dry skin.  I’m oily in the T-zone and I have some dry patches around my cheeks.

 Brand Claims

The main selling feature of this product is the use of snail secretion.  It may give most westerners a disgusting image of a slimy snail.  However, to most Asian women (like myself), we welcome the use of new and exciting discoveries out in the open.  Still freaked out?  Don’t.  The use of such extracted ingredients undergoes a long process in order for it to make it to the bottle.

Snail secretion is actually used in many famous moisturizers.  The glycolic acid and elastin in a snail’s secretion protects its own skin from cuts, bacteria, and UV rays.  It makes a great source for proteins and eliminate dead cells and regenerates skin.

 Texture/Smell

The cream is unscented but it has a slightly flowery smell to me.  The texture is light, slippery and syrupy.  The formula itself doesn’t feel sticky on the fingers or face, yet it does look slightly like goo.  You might hear some people refer to this texture as viscous, which basically means it’s sticky and/or gummy.

Ingredients

Snail extract makes up a whopping 92% of the formula.

Snail Secretion Filtrate, Cetearyl Olivate, Sorbitan Olivate, Cetearyl Alcohol, Stearic Acid, Glyceryl Stearate, Hydrogenated Vegetable Oil, Dimethicone, Triethanolamine, Carbomer, Butylene Glycol, Peg/ppg-17/6 Copolymer, Polyacrylate-13, Polyisobutene, Polysorbate 20, Sodium Polyacrylate, Caprylyl Glyocol, Adenosine, Ethylhexylglycerin, Tropolone, Sodium Hyaluronate, Portulaca Oleracea Extract, Betula Platyphylla Japonica Juice, Arnica Montana Flower Extract, Artemisia Absinthium Extract, Achillea Millefolium Extract, Gentiana Lutea Root Extract, Alcohol, Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract, Centella Asiatica Extract, Copper Tripeptide-1, Rh-oligopeptide-1, Propylene Glycol, Rubus Idaeus (Raspberry) Fruit Extract, Beta-glucan, Palmitoyl Pentapeptide-4, Disodium Edta
