We all know what we should and shouldn’t do in the morning, but when we’re tired and can’t summon up any willpower, we fall into bad habits of social media scrolling and reality TV. What I like to do to stop myself from mindless scrolling is start out with something fun.
Think of something you enjoy that will make you excited to get up in the morning and start your day off right. For me, this is sometimes a little glass of chocolate milk before I do a yoga video or read a book. Other times it’s a bowl of fancy cereal I love that motivates me to get up and get going.
Try different things that will inspire you to get up and supercharge your mornings.
You know those days when you wake up and you feel sick worrying about something? What a lousy way to start your day! Luckily, there is a cure for this morning-induced anxiety. It’s a little thing called morning pages and it can work wonders.
These thoughts can swirl around in our mind until we feel completely overwhelmed. To calm down this storm, turn to morning pages. This practice was started by Julia Cameron, who in my opinion is an artistic genius. This brain dump is designed to get all those swirling thoughts out of your head and onto paper, so you can stop feeling so anxious and get the clarity you need to supercharge your mornings and your whole day. Try it for one week!
I was never particularly interested in walking until now. It just feels good to get out of the house and do something for your body. I recently heard an interview with Dave Asprey of Bulletproof and he said that research shows you don’t need to work your body like crazy every day to be healthy. All you need is to walk 20 minutes a day 5 days a week and do a little HIIT the other two days. This made me feel a lot better about walking.
Because our jobs are sitting at a desk most of the day, we lose so much of what we can gain from nature. I love walking around and simply admiring the sky and how beautiful the sun looks coming in on the trees. Turn on your favorite podcast and go for a little walk before work. You might just find yourself inspired.
I’m a big fan of reading, especially YA fiction, but I’m not sure that’s the best thing to get me going in the morning. For many people, reading isn’t that enjoyable at all, but there is so much to be gained from it!
That’s all it takes! Find an interesting book, read a few pages, and put what you learned to use today. Continuously learning will keep you ahead of the game and maybe even prepare you for that next promotion.
I couldn’t possibly write about how to supercharge your mornings without mentioning the book that has changed thousands of people’s lives. The Miracle Morning by Hal Elrod is a serious must-read and bonus, it’s short!
